Lewisburg, Pa. --Georgetown Women's Soccer (2-0-0) team shut out Bucknell (1-1-0) Tuesday afternoon, 4-0 in a physical contest at West Fields. Junior Shara McNeill (Avon, Conn./Avon) scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead the Hoyas to the victory.
McNeill scored the first goal of the game seventeen minutes into the half off an assist from senior Casey McCann (Mendham, N.J./Mendham). Freshman Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) added another goal off an assist from McNeill eight minutes later to stake Georgetown to a 2-0 lead by the end of the half.
Three minutes into the second half, with the score still 2-0, Bucknell goalkeeper Katie Dry made a diving save of a header from Chrissy Skogen (San Marino, Calif./San Marin) that glanced off the post following the save. The Hoyas kept the momentum going as junior Alexandra Hardy (Lakewood, Calif./Long Beach Poly) added another goal seven minutes later off an assist from McNeill, her second of the day.
The score remained 3-0 until the 88th minute when freshman Elaina Filauro (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) took a pass from Jordan behind the defense and netted her first goal of the season.
For the game, Georgetown attempted 17 shots to Bucknell's seven. Freshman Jade Higgins (Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) made three saves in goal for her first career shutout for Georgetown.
Georgetown (2-0-0) hosts the Hoya Classic this weekend. The Hoyas will face Dartmouth Friday, September 3 at 2:30 p.m. and Quinnipiac on Sunday, September 5 at 2:30. Games will be played on North Kehoe Field.
