Women's Soccer Defeated by William & Mary

FAIRFAX, Va.-- Georgetown Women's Soccer (3-2-0) lost to William & Mary (1-2-2) 0-3 Thursday, September 9, in the first game of the George Mason/Burger King Invitational.

William & Mary struck early off a corner kick from Lydia Sturgis who served the ball from the left off a corner kick into the box, where Anna Young posted the game?s first goal 8:58 into the contest, putting the Tribe up, 1-0. Despite the Hoyas being down by one, they kept the offensive pressure on, having out shot the Tribe 6-3 in the first half.

The Tribe maintained its advantage halfway into the second period until the leading scorer, Taline Tahmassian, scored after she received a right cross into the left front side of the box from Anna Pawlow in the 48th minute for her third goal of the season. Katie Hogwood iced the contest for William & Mary at 73:39 off a rebound from Georgetown goalie Jade Higgins (Island Park, NY/West Hempstead), giving W&M its 3-0 win.

Offensively, junior Shara McNeill (Avon, Conn./Avon) led the Hoyas in shots with six. Senior captain Nicole DePalma (Theills, N.Y./North Rockland) also paced the Hoyas with strong offensive and defensive efforts. Overall, the Hoyas out shot the Tribe, 16-8.

The Hoyas (3-2-0) will face George Mason away on Saturday, September 11 at 2:30 p.m.
