WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Georgetown University women?s soccer (3-4-0) team lost to cross-town rival American University (6-1-0) 3-1, Tuesday September 21 on Reeves Field.
In the first half, the Hoyas dominated, having out shot the Eagles 7-5. However, American sophomore Meg Runeari gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the 34 minute mark, when she scored on a direct kick from 20 yards out. The Eagles went into halftime up by a score of 1-0.
Despite Georgetown?s offensive efforts to diminish American?s lead, the Eagles scored seven minutes into the second half off a goal from sophomore Jana Lee who took a pass from freshman Annette Scott. American's Marcela Ricupera extended the AU lead to 3-0 when she took a pass from Runeari at the 62 minute mark.
Georgetown refused to give up and kept the pressure on with senior captain Casey McCann (Mendham, N.J./Mendham) scoring a goal at the 84:01 off an assist from freshman Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) to lessen American?s lead to two. Despite the efforts, time ran out for the Hoyas as American won, 3-1. Despite the score, the Hoyas dominated offensively, having out shot the Eagles 13-9.
Georgetown women's soccer (3-4-0) team is back in action on Friday, September 24 at home on North Kehoe Field when they take on St. John?s in their first BIG EAST contest of the season. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
