TOWSON, MD. ? Georgetown?s women?s tennis program began the 2004-2005 season by entering two Hoya squads into the Towson 4+1 Invitational Tournament. Due to the remnants of Hurricane Ivan that went through the Baltimore area on Friday and Saturday, September 17 & 18, the tournament was postponed and all play was conducted on Sunday, September 19.
In the first match of the day at 9:00 a.m. the Georgetown #2 squad defeated Monmouth 5-0. At 10:30 a.m., the Georgetown #1 squad fell to Delaware by a 5-0 score. At 12 noon, both squads were in action. Georgetown #2 defeated Towson 4-0, while Georgetown #1 defeated Loyola 4-1. At 1:30 p.m., Georgetown #2 claimed an undefeated 3-0 record by topping Loyola 5-0. Finally, Georgetown #1 finished up the day by winning their 3:00 p.m. match against Monmouth 5-0.
The Hoyas will split the squad up for the next competitive weekend sending Liora Gelblum (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista), Liddy Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines), Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt) and Adriann Gin (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) to the University of Maryland Invitational while the rest of the Hoya squad will compete at Georgetown in the D.C. Metropolitan Collegiate Championships.
