COLLEGE PARK, MD. -- Four members of the Georgetown women's tennis team traveled to College Park, Maryland for the University of Maryland Invitational Tournament this past weekend.  In addition to Georgetown, the tournament included teams from the University of Maryland, Syracuse, West Virginia, Cornell, Richmond, George Washington, Maryland - Baltimore County, and American, several being national caliber teams that qualified for the 2004 BIG EAST Conference Championship, 2004 NCAA Team Championship or were ranked in the top 75 nationally last year. 

Leading the Hoyas in wins was freshman Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt), who picked up her fourth and fifth collegiate wins by defeating Jelena Zivanovic from Richmond 7-5,6-3, and Stacy Percival from West Virginia 7-6,3-6,6-0 to finish 10th in her flighted draw.  Senior Liora Gelblum (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) also impressed with a 6-3,7-6 victory over Ashley Constantine from West Virginia and fell just short against Ale Pedergnana of UMBC, who won 7-5, 3-6,7-5.  In doubles, senior Liddy Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Adriann Gin (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) challenged Wolfgram and Zivanovic of Richmond, seeded #2 in their draw, but fell 8-5. 

The Georgetown coaching staff felt that the Hoyas competed well against tough competition and were working towards their performance-oriented goals in a way that showed noticeable improvement from match to match. 

The next competition for the Hoyas will take place Oct. 1-3 when the women host squads from James Madison, American, George Washington, and UMBC in the 2004 Georgetown Invitational.
