Georgetown (12-5, 4-2) defeated Notre Dame (12-4, 4-2) on 1/23/05 by a score of 55-54. The win brought the Hoyas' record in consecutive buzzer beaters to 2-1. GU won at Villanova as Darrel Owens was fouled and made 2 from the stripe with the clock stopped at 00:00.1. The Hoyas then lost in an overtime at Syracuse which came about because Brandon Bowman's last second game winning trey at the end of regulation was ruled a game tying 2 due to a foot fault. Against Notre Dame the Hoyas let the Irish get off an off balance trey with 5 seconds remaining, giving the visitors a 1 point lead. Ashanti Cook then pushed the ball up the floor and found Roy Hibbert who slammed home the game winner just before the final horn.
Brandon Bowman and Jeff Green led all scorers with 13 points (as did ND's Chris Quinn and Colin Falls). Ashanti Cook added 12 points and Roy Hibbert had 11. Hibbert and Green each had 7 boards to pace all rebounders while Bowman added 6. Bowman also led the team in assists with 4, and blocks with 2.
The first frame was tightly contested- after 3 ties the Irish built a 5 point lead at the 11:09 mark only to see GU put together a 12-1 run for a 6 point lead of their own. The lead see-sawed through the remainder of the period with the score tied 3 more times. When ND went up by 4 with 01:34 remaining, 2 free throws by Wallace and a fastbreak layup by Cook just before intermission knotted the score at 29.
In the second half, except for a few seconds around the 13:44 mark, the Hoyas led by 1 to 6 points. At the 1:14 mark a trey by Thomas followed by the trey of a falling Falls at 00:05 gave the Irish their first lead of the half. It lasted nearly 5 seconds before Hibbert's game winner ended the contest.
For the game the Hoyas shot 39.2% to Notre Dame's 40.0%. GU dominated the glass, wiping the window for 34 caroms (13 Offensive) while the Irish had 27 boards (6 offensive). Each team had 10 turnovers.
