The Scoop
Georgetown hosts its annual "Fast Break" Club Day during today's game with Pitt. Former Georgetown women's basketball greats will be in attendance along with all the Hoya faithful to take part in numerous pre-game and in-game events. The game itself is a showdown between a 10-6 Pitt squad and a 6-10 GU team. After Georgetown earned its first league win last weekend 85-73 against St. John's the Hoyas were thwarted by snow and a plethora of Villanova threes during the middle of the week. Pitt on the other hand was able to snap a three-game losing streak by defeating Seton Hall in N.J. 62-59 after falling to St. John's Rutgers and 'Cuse. The all-time series between the institutions favors Pitt 22-19 but GU holds a slim 9-8 advantage in McDonough.

At Villanova senior Varda Tamoulianis proved she is a powerful force in the middle by hitting for a 2004-05 Hoya single game high of 27 points and recording her fifth double-double of the year with 11 rebounds. Tamoulianis at one point scored 18 consecutive points and scored 20 of GU?s 36 points in the second stanza. On the year Tamoulianis has nine games with double-digit points and six games of double digit rebounds.

Since entering conference play Georgetown's free throw shooting is an area that has improved. GU is shooting 67.5% from the charity stripe in league contests and 62.7% overall. Leading the "free points" revival are senior Mary Lisicky, who has yet to miss a free throw in league play, and freshman Kieraah Marlow who has just one miss in 11 attempts.

Pitt began this season with six consecutive wins and has won four of its last seven. Two Panthers are averaging over 12 points a game as Katie Histed leads the way with 12.9 and Marcedes Walker is second with 12.4. As a team Pitt is outrebouding its opponents by an average of 5.1 boards a contest.
