Georgetown's 7'2" freshman center Roy Hibbert (Adelphi, MD/Georgetown Prep) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the week ending January 24. Hibbert's selection marks the fourth time a Hoya has captured the award this season. Jeff Green (Hyattsville, MD/ Northwestern) has already taken home the award three times.
Hibbert recorded his first career double-double in BIG EAST play on Tuesday, January 18, scoring 12 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in a nail biting overtime loss to Syracuse. Hibbert followed up his performance against the Orange with an 11 point, 7 rebound effort against Notre Dame. Hibbert's 11 points included the game winner, a slam dunk in traffic as time expired.
Hibbert averages 5.6 points and 4.4 rebounds on the season and is second on the team in blocks with 24.
The Hoyas are 12-5 overall on the season and 4-2 in BIG EAST Conference play heading into Tuesday's game against St. John's at MCI Center.
