Women's Golf Head Coach Leland Keyser resigns

Oct. 12, 2005

Washington DC - Citing continuing medical issues, Leland Keyser this week announced her resignation as head coach of the Women's Golf program. Keyser, who had been on medical leave notified Athletic Director Bernard Muir that she would not be resuming her position as originally planned.

"While we appreciate the job that Leland has done in building the Women's Golf program to its current level of excellence, everyone understands that health issues must take precedence", said Athletic Director Bernard Muir. "Leland's stewardship of the [Women's Golf] program has seen it grow from a concept on paper to a competitive and accomplished program of which Georgetown can be proud. We all wish her the best for a speedy recovery".

Coach Keyser said "It is with a heavy heart that I leave Georgetown. My health issues give me no choice. I want to thank Georgetown for the opportunity to create a new program, Georgetown's Women's Golf Program. Working with such talented, spirited intelligent and determined young women has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. Georgetown and the members of the truly dynamic Women's Golf Program will remain in my heart forever."

Women's Golf became a Division I sport at Georgetown in the 2001-2002 season. In 2004-05 the team finished 2nd in the BIG EAST Women's Golf Championship. Acting Head Coach Connie Isler will continue to run the program.
