Monday Morning Musings

October 17, 2005

Off my radar screen while I was out of town a week ago was this very good news (reported in The Hoya) about recent ANC approval of future construction at the Georgetown Yard. Let's keep it coming! A second Hoya story relates what and when that construction will occur. Hoya Saxa!

You'll recall that two weeks ago, I noted the latest escapade involving the stolen hands from the Healy clock. The mystery of those missing hands has now been solved according to this story in last Friday's edition of The Hoya. And I thought this venerable tradition of prestidigitation included mailing the hands back and never getting caught. Since the clock face remains unadorned, I suggest that the light-fingered students be charged with putting the hands back up and sentenced to two weeks in JUG.

Make it three cheers in a row for timely reporting by The Hoya with this article last Friday about the Hoya swimmers and divers on the eve of their season opener. Go H2OYAS!

My picks for most interesting contests this coming week:

> Men's Soccer: The Hoyas (8-6) are coming off a big win against the Golden Domers. On Wednesday, they face top-25 power Creighton (7-2-3) on North Kehoe Field.

> Football: Fordham. Hoya Homecoming. Need I say more? Actually, I will - in a post later this week.

> Crew: The Hoya rowers will compete next weekend in Boston at the 41st annual Head Of The Charles Regatta, the world's largest two-day rowing event.

> Volleyball: A challenging season for the Hoya netters (5-14) would be considerably brightened by a victory in McDonough on Tuesday over cross-town foe GW (9-12).

Last week, the Hoya athletic teams posted an overall win-loss record of 1-8 and earned a 3rd, a 6th, three 7th, a 13th, a 16th, and a 19th place finish in standings competition.
