New York, N.Y. - The Georgetown University men's basketball team was picked to finish in sixth place in the BIG EAST Conference, as announced on Wednesday at the conference media day in the Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Senior forward Brandon Bowman (Santa Monica, Calif./Westchester) and sophomore forward Jeff Green (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) were tabbed as Preseason All-BIG EAST honorable mention selections.

Villanova was a narrow choice in a vote of the league's coaches to win the BIG EAST, earning nine first place votes and 215 points overall, edging out Connecticut, which had seven first place votes and 213 votes overall. They were followed by Louisville (192), Syracuse (181), West Virginia (175) and Georgetown (152).

Pittsburgh was tabbed seventh (130), followed by Notre Dame (128), Cincinnati (127), St. John's (79), DePaul (76), Marquette (73), Providence (68), Rutgers (53), Seton Hall (35) and South Florida (23).

Bowman earned third-team All-BIG EAST honors last year, helping to lead the Hoyas to a 19-13 overall record and to the NIT. He led the team in scoring (15.1 points) and was second in rebounding (6.1 per game), while also leading the team in steals (42) and blocks (29).

Green was one of 14 players to earn preseason all-league honors. The 2005 Co-BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, he finished second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per game, while leading the team in rebounding (6.6), assists (2.9) and blocked shots (1.9). He was a unanimous selection to the honorable mention All-BIG EAST team and was named National Freshman of the Year by Basketball Times.

Rudy Gay of Connecticut and Gerry McNamara of Syracuse were selected as the league's Preseason Co-Players of the Year.

Georgetown opens the 2005-06 season on Friday, November 18, playing at Navy. The game is slated to tip off at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast by College Sports Television (CSTV).
