Are you ready for some . . . Hoop ball?

I hope so. Tomorrow's home opener against Vanderbilt will give many of us stay-at-home-for-the-holiday Hoyas a first look at our team as well as our expanded base of season ticket holders.

Hard to say where this team will be when we begin Big East play on January 5. For sure, it will be the most well tested Hoya team heading into conference competition that I can remember in the last 25 years. In just two games so far this season, Hibb is exceeding expectations, while Brandon and Jeff have been underwhelming. Let's see how they do in the now-friendlier confines of MCI Arena.

Last year's turn-around season, terrific recruiting, tireless promotion by the student-run Hoya Blue and successful efforts by the marketing and ticket staff in McDonough have all combined to create a loud buzz this year about this team. Fans are excited about this program and are ready to start believing in this team.

There will be no Kornheiser-like bandwagon campaign on this site but, as I see it, our goal as fans is to cheer on the team and have fun doing it. Gosh knows, we certainly have many years of experience doing just that.

At 1:00 p.m. Saturday, we will be ready!
