Washington, D.C. - Senior forward Brandon Bowman (Santa Monica, Calif./Westchester) scored a season-high 16 points and Georgetown connected on a season-high 12 three-pointers, leading the Hoyas to a 76-51 non-conference win in front of 6,518 fans at the MCI Center on Sunday afternoon.
It was the first home win of the season for the Blue & Gray, who improve to 4-2 overall. The Stags fall to 1-6 with the loss.
The Hoyas scored eight of the game's first 10 points and then used a 10-0 spurt over a 2:18 span midway through the first half to take a 29-10 lead. The run started with a Bowman three-pointer, giving GU a 22-10 lead at 8:33, and was finished on a trey by senior guard Darrel Owens (Napoleonville, La./Assumption) with 6:15 left to play. A three-pointer from senior guard Ashanti Cook (Inglewood, Calif./Westchester) with 10 seconds left in the half gave the Hoyas a 39-20 advantage going in to the second half.
Georgetown connected on 53.6 percent of its first half field goals (15-of-28), including 40.0 percent from outside the arc. They hit six three-pointers, tying the team's season high for treys by halftime.
The Hoyas outscored the Stags 17-6 over the first 6:27 of the second half, with five different players scoring, and took a 55-26 lead on an Owens layup. The lead grew to as many as 30 points - 65-35 - on a pair of free throws from freshman forward Octavius "Tay" Spann (Atlanta, Ga./Banneker).
All 15 players on the Hoya roster appeared during the game and 13 different players scored.
Bowman connected on 6-of-8 shots from the field and finished with 16 points to go with four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore guard Jonathan Wallace (Harvest, Ala./Sparkman) scored 11 points and tied a career-high six assists, while Cook finished with 10 points and three rebounds.
Sophomore forward Roy Hibbert (Adelphi, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored nine points, had three rebounds and two blocked shots and Owens finished with five points and three rebounds.
Georgetown connected on 50.0 percent of its shots (26-of-52), 35.3 percent of its three-pointers (12-of-34) and 75.0 percent of its free throws (12-of-16). The Stags were limited to 38.5 percent shooting from the field (20-of-52), 33.3 percent from the arc (8-of-24) and hit three of six free throws.
The 25-point margin of victory is the biggest margin of victory this season and the highest for a Georgetown team since beating The Citadel, 69-34 (35 points), on November 26, 2004. The team's 20 assists were a season-high and the most since the team had 21 last season against Howard on December 30, 2004. Georgetown also finished the game with a season-high 12 three-pointers, the most for the team since hitting 14 in the NIT last year against South Carolina.
