Team captains led a small entourage of joggers on a ceremonial lap around the new oval. The remainder of the Hoya tribe were given the choice of jogging or walking. They walked (including the rest of the team). I like to think they all wanted to savor the moment as long as possible. Alumni from each decade of the past fifty years participated.

The Hispanic Classic is considered an exempt tournament, meaning the Hoyas and the other teams involved count all their games in this tourney as one game against the NCAA limit of scheduled games. Oregon, Stetson and Savannah State are Georgetown's opponents in the convoluted and extended format of this tournament that has teams playing two, three or even four opponents. Because the tournament is an exempt event, experimental rules are being used, including a wider free-throw lane, a three-point line a foot farther from the basket, and an area under the basket limiting offensive charging fouls, similar to the restricted arc in the NBA.

Last week, only the Hoya basketball teams were in action. They posted an overall win-loss record of 1-2.
