The Scoop
Both the Hoyas and Huskies were riding three game winning streaks heading into this past weekend but both programs fell to top 15 programs as Georgetown lost at #6 Notre Dame 72-58 and Connecticut fell at #11 Rutgers 76-62. The Hoyas return home after traveling for three of their last four games and own a 6-5 home record thus far in 2004-05. Meanwhile UConn has gone 5-2 in opposing venues. The all-time series favors UConn 34-6 with Georgetown's last victory over the Huskies coming on February 27, 1993 by a 64-62 count in Storrs. Tonight's game will be the only regular season showdown between the programs.

It was a classic comeback in the making last weekend at #6 Notre Dame when GU fell behind by 17 points early but a half court heave by Kristin Heidloff at the buzzer gave GU momentum heading into halftime and cut ND's lead to just nine. Then GU scored four straight to open the second half, all coming from Varda Tamoulianis, and the Hoyas were right back in the contest. With all things pointing GU's way the Irish began sinking foul shot after foul shot and the Hoya comeback faded away. Bethany LeSueur connected for 10 points in the game for her sixth straight double-digit outing while Mary Lisicky was the team leader with 16 points for her fourth straight double-digit performance. Lisicky also recorded her 400th career assist in the game and stands third all-time at GU in that category.

UConn has six losses in the regular season for the first time since the 1992-93 season but five of the six losses have come against teams ranked in the top 11. The lone loss to an unranked team came at Arizona State on December 21. Three Huskies average over 10 points a game, led by Ann Strother's 12.5 and followed by Charde Houston (11.5) and Barbara Turner (10.7). Strother is the only UConn player to start all 22 games and she leads the BIG EAST in three pointers per game with 2.73.
