Bradenton, FL-- The Georgetown University baseball team (9-5) shut out Yale 5-0 on Saturday afternoon to sweep the series 3-0. Georgetown righthander Warren Sizemore did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and combined with two relievers to shut out the Yale baseball team 5-0 at Academy Park, the Hoyas third straight win over the Bulldogs.
Sizemore (2-0) allowed three hits in seven scoreless innings, striking out two. Michael Halloran and Billy Quinn each threw an inning to complete the shutout. Quinn, who played right field for the first eight innings, had two hits and drove in three runs to help Georgetown (9-5) win its fifth straight game and its seventh in the last eight tries.
Two walks and an error loaded the bases with one out in the Georgetown third before Quinn delivered the team's first hit off Yale lefty Mike Mongiardini (0-2), plating two runs. Matthew Bouchard moved to third on the play and scored on a Ryan Craft sacrifice fly.
Marc Sawyer recorded a pair of hits for the Bulldogs (1-6). Jake Doyle and Eric Rasmussen broke up Sizemore's no-hitter with consecutive singles to lead off the bottom of the fifth. A C.J. Orrico walk loaded the bases, but Yale hit into a 1-2-3 double play. Zac Bradley walked to load them again, but a flyout to center ended the threat.
Bouchard was the third straight Hoya to single to begin the seventh, scoring Mark McLaughlin. Quinn followed with another single to plate Bouchard, who had stolen second.
Mongiardini gave up three earned runs on six hits and struck out six in six and one-third innings. Brian Irving and Adam Barrick each allowed one hit in relief, and neither gave up a run.
The Hoyas face Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, March 13 in Bradenton, Florida. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
