Washington, D.C.--The Georgetown University sailing team competed in five regattas over the weekends since February 26. The team claimed two first place victories as well as finishing second, fourth, and ninth.
In the John Jackson Memorial team race held at Georgetown on March 5-6th, the squad finished first in convincing fashion, losing only two races to Charleston and Hobart. Andrew Campbell, Caroline LaMotte, Steve Streit, Emile Bogrand, Ed DuMoulin, Barbara Hall, and Derby Anderson all represented the Hoyas. The regatta was sailed using 18 FJ's and six 420's.
At the Old Dominion Open held on March 5-6th, the Hoyas finished fourth of 17 teams. Freshman Chris Behm and Nick Deane paced Georgetown, winning a number of races and finishing first in the A division with 37 points. Jackie Schmitz and Leigh Fogwell finished eighth in the B division with 108 points.
The Hoyas finished second at the St. Mary's team race held on March 12 and 13, finishing with a team score of 11 wins and 3 losses. The race was very close as St. Mary's claimed victory by only one more win more than the Hoyas. The Hoyas also defeated Boston College by winning a sailoff. Campbell, Blaire Herron, Streit, Bogrand, duMoulin, Emily Siguler, Behm and Deane all sailed well for the Hoyas.
On March 12 and 13th, the team competed in the Navy Spring women's intersectional where the team finished ninth. Georgetown's Cordo Carraher and Leigh Fogwell pulled together a six place finish in the B division with 97 points.
Georgetown competed at the Ice Free Open at Christopher Newport on March 12-13th. The team claimed first place and dominated the event by wining almost every race in both the A and B division. Chris Gosselin and Liz Rapp won the A division with 25 points and Dan Esdorn and Theresa Salerno won the B division with 20 points.
The Hoyas will next compete at the Truxton Umsted held at Navy, the St. Mary's Intersectional, and the Team Race Invite held at Georgetown.
