March 21, 2005
Washington, DC--The Georgetown University sailing team competed in two regattas this weekend. The team had a fifth and sixth place finish, competing at the Truxton Umsted Regatta held at Navy, and the St. Mary's Women's Intersectional, respectively.
Georgetown faired well at the 2005 Trux Regatta finishing in sixth place overall. Light winds made the racing difficult and only 10 races per division were completed. The highlight of the regatta for the Hoyas was the performance of junior Andrew Campbell and Caroline LaMotte. Campbell and LaMotte sailed consistently well and were able to win A div by 16 points. Langton Mitchell placed sixth in the D division, while Steve Streit and Emily Siguler placed 10th in the B division and JB Turney placed 12th in the C division.
The Lady Hoyas sailed well against a very tough fleet at the St. Mary's Women's Intersectional. The highlight for the Hoyas was the performance of freshman skipper Blaire Herron and senior Dorothee Bergin. The duo was close to first in B and finished in the top five in sixth out of 10 races.
The Hoyas are now ranked fifth in the new Sailing World rankings, improving from 11th. The women are now ranked 10th.
The Hoyas will compete in two regattas over the weekend of March 25 and 26, traveling to the Old Dominion Team Race MAISA/SAISA Intersectional.
