ARLINGTON, VA. -- Georgetown hosted BIG EAST Conference rival Rutgers at the Army Navy Country Club Indoor Tennis Facility in Arlington, Va. on Sunday, February 20. Rutgers edged Georgetown by a 4-3 score to win the match.
Rutgers swept the three doubles matches to take the team point for the doubles competition and a 1-0 lead into the singles competition.
In the singles competition, Georgetown secured wins at #4, #5 and #6 singles to offset Rutgers wins at #1 and #3 singles. Eric Conrad won the #4 singles match, Scott Faust won the #5 singles match and Scott Maucher won the #6 singles match. With the team score knotted at 3-3, the remaining singles match featured Hoya senior Erik Bildman. Bildman was unable to come through for the Georgetown cause, although he saved numerous match points in the second set and held a set point serving in the second set tiebreak at 6-5.
The Hoyas record now stands at 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the BIG EAST. The next match for the Hoyas is scheduled for March 16 at 2:00 p.m., as UMBC will visit the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
