MORGANTOWN, WV - Georgetown's women's tennis team lost to West Virginia 1-6 on Saturday April 9 in Morgantown, WV. It was an important BIG EAST match for the Hoyas as a win would have virtually assured them a berth in the BIG EAST Conference Championship.

Georgetown started strong and finished strong, but in between the start and the finish, West Virginia proved to be the better team. In the doubles competition, Georgetown received another outstanding doubles performance from the #1 team of Liddy Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA/Torrey Pines) and Adriann Gin (Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) as they defeated the Mountaineer team of Theis and Lyskawa 8-1. West Virginia took the #2 and #3 doubles matches to post a 1-0 lead in team points.

In singles West Virginia won five singles matches in straight sets. But Bartell battled back from a 2-5 first set deficit to take her match at #2 singles 7-5,4-6,10-8 in a well played match.

The final score of the match was Georgetown-1, West Virginia-6.

The Hoya squad hosts Rutgers at the McDonough Tennis Complex Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm with hopes of claiming another BIG EAST victory and improving their position for a berth in the BIG EAST Conference Championship Tournament.
