WASHINGTON, DC -- Georgetown defeated Longwood 5-2 to complete 2005 regular season play with a record of 6 wins and 7 losses.
The Hoyas opened the dual match with a terrific doubles performance sweeping all three doubles matches. At #3 doubles Andrew Clayton (Salt Lake City, UT/Rowland Hall- St. Mark's) and Scott Maucher (Mount Pleasant, NC/Bishop England) claimed GU's first match win with an 8-4 win. Then at #1 doubles Erik Bildman (Brookline, MA/Roxbury Latin) and Eric Conrad (Gloucester, MA/St. John's Prep) won by an 8-5 score. In the final doubles pairing, Scott Faust (Miami, FL/Ransom Everglades) and Kevin Killeavy (Indian Harbor Beach, FL/Melbourne Central Catholic) overturned a 5-7 deficit to win 9-7.
Killeavy opened the singles competition with a decisive 6-1,6-0 win at #4 singles. Maucher won his #2 singles match by coming back from a 2-5 first set deficit to win 7-6(4),6-0. Conrad won the #5 singles match 6-4,6-2. Faust finalized the Hoya team scoring by adding a win at #6 singles by a score of 6-2,6-3.
With the win, Georgetown raises its dual match record to 6-7 overall, including a 3-2 record in BIG EAST play.
Georgetown will continue their 2004-2005 season at the BIG EAST Conference Championships beginning Thursday April 21. The BIG EAST will hold the conference championship for the first time at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. The Hoyas opponent and the time their match will be played will be determined on Monday April 18.
