GUST Competes in Four Regattas

April 21, 2005

Washington, DC--The Georgetown University sailing team competed in four regattas over the weekend of April 16-17. The team placed third at the the Arrigan Regatta held at Georgetown, seventh at the Dellenbaugh Women's Regatta held at Brown, 11th at the Admirals Cup held at Kings Point, and 15th at the Moody Trophy held at University of Rhode Island.

The 20th Annual Robert P. Arrigan Memorial Regatta saw some good competition amongst the top three teams. The Hoyas came close to winning but fell a few points short marking the first time in the last six years the Hoyas have not won this event. In A division Cordo Carraher and Leigh Fogwell put in a great performance winning four of the last five races.

At the Dellenbaugh Invitational, another group of Hoya women traveled to Brown to compete in a women's intersectional. The team sailed well and each division had a run of good races in a row but a few double didgit finishes kept the girls out of the top 5 overall. Derby Anderson and Barbara Hall finished 10th in the A division and Blaire Herron and Emily Siguler sailed to fifth in the B division.

The Hoyas also competed at the Admirals Cup, where the Hoyas placed 11th overall, yet fourth in the dinghy divisions. Due to poor wind conditions on Sunday, there was no competition held. Andrew Campbell and Caroline LaMotte finished fifth in the A division with 65 points.

At the Moody Trophy, Both divisions had a few good races but weren't able to finish in the top 10 enough.

The Hoyas will compete in three events over the weekend of April 23-24. The Hoyas will host the MAISA Women's Championship, travel to the Thompson Trophy held at Coast Guard, and travel to the MAISA Open Regatta held at Cornell University.
