McDonough Gym, home of the men's basketball training facility and the women's basketball and volleyball team's home court, received a fresh coat of paint this past week. The main floor, the latest part of the training facility to be transformed, now has a new look.
The floor reverts back to the traditional Georgetown colors of navy blue and gray and features the official "G" logo of the athletic department. The new paint complements the other changes that have taken place in McDonough Gym since John Thompson III was hired as head coach last year. Renovations during the summer of 2004 updated the walls in the main gym, auxiliary gym, weight room and locker room and added a new academic lab.
The last time McDonough Gym received such a facelift was in preparation to be the official training site for the 1988 USA Men's Olympic Basketball team. Since then the only prior improvement was a new floor installed during the summer of 2003. That was the first renovation to the McDonough Gym court in over 50 years.
The new paint and the other recent improvements to the basketball training facilities have been made possible by the support of the Hoya Hoop Club.
