WASHINGTON, DC - The Georgetown University women's soccer team (1-0-0) is off to a strong start after defeating Bucknell (0-1-0) 3-1 in its season opener Saturday, August 27 on North Kehoe Field.
The Hoyas got off to a quick start as sophomore midfielder Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, IN) scored an unassisted goal off a corner kick in the eighth minute of the game. The remainder of the first half was scoreless and the Hoyas entered halftime up 1-0.
The Bison bounced back quickly in the second half when Suzanne Arata found Jennifer Dervarics who scored the tying goal early in the second half. GU sophomore Elaina Filauro (Denville, NJ) regained the lead for Georgetown by connecting on a pass from Jordan at the 68:54 mark. To close out the Bison, senior Alexandra Hardy (Lakewood, CA) added another goal to the tally in the 75th minute. The Hoyas came out victorious with a final margin of 3-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jade Higgins (Island Park, NY) played the entire game and earned her first victory of the year. Bucknell goalie Katie Dry had six saves on the day and the Hoyas took 19 total shots.
The Hoyas look to extend their season opening streak on Wednesday, August 31 when they face BIG EAST opponent Villanova on North Kehoe Field at 3 p.m.
