Ahoya, me hearties, mebbe ye already knew that Monday, Sept. 19th is Dave Barry-inspired "Talk Like a Pirate Day," (soon to become an official national holiday with a skull and cross bones flag). Dinna fergit to spit out one "Aaarrgghh" t'day or I'll be cuttin yer rashin o' rum.

If you were on campus this weekend, the place was crawling with 33-58 year old male alums. Mike Hutchison C'83, a football and lacrosse alum, who resides in Columbia, SC, successfully organized an effort to raise over $250,000 in endowment funds to support salaries for assistant football coaches in perpetuity. He also worked with the Gridiron Club and Hoyas Unlimited to put together a reunion last weekend of all Glacken-era football players. Naturally, the special guests and honorees of this reunion were the assistant coaches who use to toil daily on the gridiron with these and hundreds of other Georgetown footballers. Great job, Mike. ps. JoeLo(nardo), 1969 football co-captain, gets a pass for not attending the weekend grid festivities due to the birthday celebration of his one-year old grandson in Cleveland.

The yard was totally sold out (2,500 seats) for its first-ever intercollegiate game last weekend. Last time I remember a football sell-out was when Scotty Glacken first began coaching in the pre-varsity days of club football . . . back then, during the game, you could almost always find a keg or two in the grandstands.

My picks for most interesting contests this coming week:

Crew: both men and women's teams compete in the Head of the Potomac, a fall tradition for local college rowing supremacy.

Women's Golf: I'll stick with the peer school angle and watch how we do at the Princeton Invitational.

Tennis: both men and women's teams compete in the DC Metro Championships, a fall tradition for local college tennis supremacy.

Men's Soccer: any contest in any sport against Villanova always gets my attention.

Last week, the Hoyas posted an overall win-loss record of 6-5 and earned 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 18th place finishes in standings competition.
