PISCATAWAY, NJ - Georgetown women's soccer (8-1-1, 1-0-1 BIG EAST) won its sixth straight game tonight at Rutgers (3-5-0, 0-2-0) defeating the Scarlet Knights, 3-1. The Hoyas recorded their first conference win of the season and extend their winning streak to six.
The Hoya offense was flawless, completing all three shots for goals.
In the 23rd minute of play, senior Alexandra Hardy (Lakewood, CA) took a header off a cross from sophomore Karen Waskewich (Laytonsville, MD) to score the first goal for the Hoyas. Less than three minutes later sophomore Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, IN) scored a goal off a corner kick putting the Hoyas up by two. The Hoyas outshot the Scarlet Knights in the first half. The defense, led by senior captain Ashley Darcy (Coral Springs, FL), held off Rutgers the first half, not letting them take a shot. The Hoyas would enter halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Rutgers came out much more aggressive in the second half, taking seven shots to Georgetown's one. The Scarlet Knights could not find net until the 77th minute of play when Domenique Esposito scored an unassisted goal off sophomore goalkeeper Jade Higgins (Island Park, NY). However, the accuracy of the Hoyas would come through again when freshman Brittany Berry (Gaithersburg, MD) scored an unassisted goal at 87:42 to secure the Hoya victory, 3-1.
Goalkeeper Higgins records her eighth win with two saves today.
The Hoyas return to BIG EAST action this Sunday, September 25 at noon to face Seton Hall on North Kehoe Field. Seton Hall lost to Villanova 1-0 in BIG EAST action today. SHU is now 1-1-0 in BIG EAST play.
