In the hyper-speed world of the internet, blogging has been around for quite a while now. So it's about time for GUHoyas.com to break new ground with its own blog. With these initial postings, Editor Patrick McArdle says "I hope to make this corner of the official athletic website fun and interesting, and perhaps in the process, build a community of greater interest. Hoya Saxa!"
VFTH (View From The Hilltop) is a distinct corner of our website, GUHOYAS.com. It is a blog; a link-filter; a sports column; part commentary, part journal, part photo album; a portal to GUHoyas.com; it is colloquial analysis; it is home-grown and has an experimental feel to it. Several times per week, it will offer such features as athletic news, historical anecdotes, individual profiles, and observations. We hope eventually to add a mailbag and guest bloggers.
The editor of VIEW FROM THE HILLTOP is Patrick J. McArdle. Pat lives in Washington, DC where he has worked for Georgetown University since 1981. He currently serves as Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics. He continues to be a student of athletic history at Georgetown.
In his career at Georgetown, Pat has worked extensively with external constituencies. A long-time member of the alumni and development staff at the University, he has served as executive director of the Georgetown Alumni Association as well as directed the fund raising efforts for athletics, financial aid, and the annual fund at different times within the University.
Pat majored in classics at Georgetown where he captained the varsity lacrosse team. A two-time MVP, he was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Lacrosse Classic as a senior. Following a stint in the U.S. Army, he returned to Georgetown University to study law. He served as volunteer president of HOYAS Unlimited, and subsequently authored a landmark proposal to overhaul the structure of the organization and to position it for dramatic future growth.
While in law school and afterwards, Pat received national recognition as a post-collegiate lacrosse player as well as helped to coach to Georgetown's varsity team. He was inducted into the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.
Pat has served as an officer of the National Lacrosse Foundation in Baltimore and was deeply involved in the strategic planning process that transformed the organization into the national governing body for the sport (U.S. Lacrosse). Pat has served as vice president of Winners Lacrosse, a non-profit organization to develop inner-city lacrosse in Washington, DC. He helped to establish the Tewaaraton Award Foundation and is active in philanthropic efforts for several area educational institutions. Pat is the father of three children.
