Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III
On his reaction to the game... It's a good win against a terrific team. They are probably still the best team in the country, today was just our day. I think that our guys are tough and they consistently made tough plays. I'm happy to walk away with a win.
On the reaction of the seniors... I think that those guys obviously are pretty happy back there in the locker room. I'm glad for them to get a win like this here at home their senior year. They played well. I'm happy for our seniors. For that group to win this game, for that group to experience that, it is special.
On Duke's play... This is such a hard team to play against. They put so much pressure on you on both ends of the floor. They forced so many turnovers. They are the kind of team where you can't pick up your dribble. They play pretty hard consistently, night in and night out.
On what the win means for the program... Give me a minute or two to digest it and then we can start talking about it. We'll see, there is still a lot of ball to be played. I think it gives our guys a bit of confidence and I tell our guys every day, we can beat every team in the country. We can use this momentum.
On Georgetown's play... We showed a lot of guts today out there. We did a good job about being strong with the ball. We did play with a lot of intensity. We did play hard and smart, I think we played intelligently today.
On what was going through his mind at the end of the game... Notre Dame.
On his father's reaction... "'Congratulations, I love you,' is what he said."
On J.J. Redick... I think we were fortunate. We wanted to make J.J. work and make him earn his points. He's been doing it for four years. Going into it you wonder how you are going to stop him and you're not, he's too good, he makes tough, contested shots. I was hoping that we could limit everyone else. He's going to score anyway.
On Sheldon Williams... Williams had four points, that's not going to happen too many times. We wanted to try to do that and we were lucky he got in foul trouble.
On John Wallace... You can look at John... and you are playing against a team that is one of the better if not the best defensive teams when it comes to ball pressure. He had six assists and one turnover and he had the ball in his hands most of the time. And that was key because you come downcourt and you look to throw to this person, throw it to that person, but then no one's open. You have to keep your dribble and you have to be strong with the ball. And just like everyone else, John is getting better.
On the atmosphere... It was terrific. The energy you get off your fans definitely helps how we play, it gives our guys a boost. The students have been great for two years now. Our students were terrific today. There were a couple of busloads of kids there before we even got there.
On the last eight minutes... When you play against good defensive teams you are going to have some bad possessions. We got a little stagnant for a few possessions. I don't think that we tensed up, I just think that they had a few good possessions.
On the high number of assists... I think we have been doing that all year. We have different guys that can score and we do a good job of sharing the ball. You have to score to beat them and I'm just glad that we hit a few more than they did.
On the Princeton Offense... I thought our kids played well together today. Scoring 87 points against them is difficult. This Princeton Offense is taking hold. Are we better at it than we were at this point last year? Yes. Are we a long way from where we are going to be? Yes.
