Cincinnati, Ohio - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (8-10, 1-6 BE) had three players in double figures but the Hoyas could not overcome a 26-point second half deficit in an 87-68 BIG EAST loss at Cincinnati (13-5, 3-4 BE) tonight at Fifth Third Arena.
Sophomore Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) recorded her 15th career double-double tallying a game-high 27 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Sophomore Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) collected 15 points, three assists and two steals while senior Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) scored 13 points and handed out seven assists, one shy of her career high.
The Hoyas trailed 65-39 with 12:17 left but the Hoyas held Cincinnati scoreless over the next five minutes as the Georgetown went on an 11-0 run, including six by LeSueur, to close to 65-50 with 7:48 remaining.
Georgetown would cut their deficit to 13 points, 66-53, at the 6:19 mark but that would be as close the Hoyas would get.
Georgetown was down eight points, 39-31 at halftime. The Bearcats outrebounded GU, 18-10 and Cincinnati had 18 points in the paint, 11 on second chance opportunities. UC also shot 50 percent from the field (15-30) before intermission while Georgetown made 36 percent of their field goals (8-22)
Marlow scored 16 first half points, ten from the charity stripe while UC's Shelly Bellman tallied 15 points, including two three-point buckets.
The Hoyas return home to McDonough Arena on Saturday, January 28 when they host No. 10 Rutgers in a BIG EAST tilt that tips off at 3 p.m.
