Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown swimming and diving program started the 2006-07 campaign yesterday with the men taking second place of five teams at the Potomac Relays while the women placed third of six squads.
On the men's side, there was one relay team that placed first. The duo of freshmen James Livolsi (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and Brian Koh (Rowland Heights, Calif.) took first place in the 1000 yard freestyle relay with a time of 9:54.50, more than seven seconds faster than the second place George Washington team. Livolsi and Koh then teamed up with fellow freshman Wes Going (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore co-captain Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) for a second place finish in the 800 freestyle relay. Livolsi and Going took second place again with sophomore standout Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) in the 300 yard backstroke relay. Bistric took second place honors in the 300 yard butterfly relay with teammates sophomore co-captain David Ballinger (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) and freshman John Deppe (Hindsale, Ill.) with a time of 2:45.28. The quartet of Bistric, Going, Ballinger and freshman Eric Mooney (Absecon, N.J.) swam to a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay event with a time of 1:30.09.
On the women's side, the freshman quartet of Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy), Emma Porteus (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable), Margaret Kimball (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) swam to a third-place finish in the 800 yard freestyle event. Senior co-captain Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) teamed up with sophomore Katelyn O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y./The Ursuline School) and freshman Laura Alito (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) for a third place finish in the 300 butterfly relay.
The Hoyas open their dual-meet season on Saturday, October 21 when they host crosstown foe George Washington at McCarthy Pool. The meet is slated for 1 p.m.
