Washington, D.C. - After the final day of competition at the Patriot Invitational, a three-day swim meet held in Fairfax, Va. and hosted by George Mason University, the Georgetown women's swimming and diving team placed seventh out of 10 teams while the men finished eighth out of 10. For the women, UMBC won the meet followed by Duke, North Carolina, George Mason, Seton Hall, Shippensburg, Georgetown, American, George Washington and Howard. The Retrievers also took first on the men's side, followed by were North Carolina, Duke, Seton Hall, Shippensburg, George Washington, George Mason, Georgetown, American and Howard.
On the women's side, senior co-captain Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) pulled in an 11th place finish in the 200 yard butterfly. Freshman Emma Porteus (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) finished 12th in the 100 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay when she teamed up with freshmen Laura Alito (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) and Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) and sophomore Katelyn O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y./The Ursuline School).
For the men, sophomore diver Michael McWilliams (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga High) took eighth place in the one-meter diving event. Fellow sophomore Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) finished seventh in the 200 backstroke and freshman Wes Going (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High) took ninth place. Bistric and Going then formed a quartet with freshmen Brian Koh (Rowland Heights, Calif./Darien) and Eric Mooney (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit) to take 11th in the 400 freestyle relay.
To date, 18 Hoya student-athletes have qualified for the BIG EAST Conference Championships in 47 events.
The Hoyas return to the water on Saturday, December 2 when they travel to BIG EAST Conference foe Villanova for a 2 p.m. meet. The Hoyas are 0-1 in conference meets, having lost to Seton Hall earlier this season.
