Game Watches Get in Gear
I knew it would be a good night when the Redskins cheerleaders showed up.
The Hoya Hoop Club has been assisting alumni in running game watches, where several alumni and fans of the Hoyas meet up at a local sports bar and watch a game on TV. If you can't make it to the games by contacting the Hoop Club about away game or out-of-town member tickets, game watches are the next best way to show your spirit. Last Thursday was my first game watch since I graduated. A group of 60 to 70 local Hoya followers from Northern Virginia met up at Mr. Day's in Clarendon. After being treated to a pre-game happy hour that included a performance by the Washington Redskins cheerleaders who were at the bar for a taping of a weekly show on Comcast, we settled in and cheered the Hoyas on to victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Similar game watches were going on around the country and around the world that night. Whether it was the one hundred -plus students that packed the Village C Alumni lounge on campus, the Hoop Club's flagship game watch at Townhall on Wisconsin Avenue in DC, a loyal group of Hoyas in the Bay Area, or the seven Georgetown students studying in Prague who got together to watch the game at strange hours of the morning.
The Hoop Club has begun to list all of the game watches going on for each televised Hoyas game on its redesigned website. In addition, the new Assistant Director of Hoyas Unlimited, Nate Brown (nb255@georgetown.edu) who was instrumental in making many of the DC area game watches a success last week, is always available to assist in the planning of any alumni game watch in your area.
So as we look forward to time spent with family this Thanksgiving weekend, make some time to join other members of the Georgetown family in your area for upcoming game watches against Fairfield, Oregon, and Duke.
