Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown men's swimming dropped a 167-67 decision at Villanova today to drop to 0-6 overall in dual meets with a 0-2 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. The women lost 173-61 for a 1-5, 0-2 BE record.
For the men, freshman Wes Going (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High) took home the lone first place finish when he swam the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 54.32 with sophomore Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) and freshman James LiVolsi (Scotch Plains, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) following in second and third, respectively. Freshman Eric Mooney (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit) took two second place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Sophomore co-captains Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and David Ballinger (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) each finished in second place in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly, respectively. Rounding out the top finishers was sophomore diver Michael McWilliams (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga) taking second in the one-meter diving event.
On the women's side, the 100 breaststroke was dominated by the Hoyas as the top-four finishes represented the Blue and Gray. Freshman standout Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) took first with a time of 1:10.27 followed by sophomore Christina DiNapoli (Saddle River, N.J./Immaculate Heart), freshman Emma Porteus (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) and senior co-captain Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic). Freshman Laura Alito (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) also turned in a strong performance when she finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.80.
This event finishes the first half of the GU's 2006-07 schedule. The Hoyas return to the water on Saturday, January 14, 2007 when they travel to Morgantown, W.Va. for dual meets against St. Bonaventure and BIG EAST opponent West Virginia.
