WASHINGTON (AP) - Patrick Ewing Jr. made the last of Georgetown's school record-tying 16 3-pointers and the Hoyas beat James Madison 89-53 Tuesday night.
Jeff Green had 17 points for Georgetown, finally putting on the kind of offensive show the team was expecting from its junior forward. He went 6-for-8 from the field and had five assists to help the Hoyas snap the two-game skid that dropped the preseason No. 8 team out of the Top 25.
Georgetown entered the game in a 3-for-23 slump in 3-point shooting from losses to Oregon and Duke, but the Hoyas (5-3) made 16 of 33 against James Madison to tie their record set in a 76-51 win over Davidson in 2004. Ewing Jr. hit the 16th 3-pointer with 3:56 to play.
Jessie Sapp added 15 points, and Jonathan Wallace had 14 for the Hoyas, who shot 58 percent and had assists on 27 of their 32 field goals. The taller Hoyas also outrebounded the Dukes 31-20.
Freshman point guard Pierre Curtis scored 14 points to lead the Dukes (2-5), who lost their third straight. James Madison was hoping to become the second Colonial Athletic Association school to beat Georgetown on the road this season, following Old Dominion's upset win last month.
The Dukes' 36-point margin of defeat equaled the third largest in school history.
Green is considered a potential Big East player of the year, but his passive play and foul trouble have been early season concerns for coach John Thompson III. Green had scored in double digits only once in his previous five games.
He was a different player from the opening whistle Tuesday. He aggressively drove to the basket for a layup for the game's first points, then hit a pair of 3-pointers and two free throws after an offensive rebound as the Hoyas took a 14-7 lead.
Green's 3-pointer late in the game gave the Hoyas an 18-point lead, and his one-handed dunk after a give-and-go with Roy Hibbert extended the lead to 20 early in the second half.
James Madison coach Dean Keener shuffled his lineup, giving Joe Posey and Gabriel Chami their first starts of the season Posey finished with eight points, and Chami had five.
