Washington, D.C. - The No. 7 ranked Georgetown men's lacrosse team opens its 2006 campaign at home against the No. 3 ranked Maryland Terrapins on Saturday, February 25 at the Multi-Sport Field. Face-off is set for 2 p.m.
Saturday's game will be a rematch of one of the most exciting lacrosse games of 2005. That game saw the Terps squeak out a 9-8 overtime victory over the Hoyas in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The matchup between Georgetown and Maryland marks the third consecutive year that the Hoyas and Terps will line up to begin a new season. Head Coach Dave Urick and the Hoyas are 13-3 all-time in season openers, with two of the three losses coming against the Terps. The last time Maryland paid a visit to Washington was in 2004 and GU lost 14-5.

The Series with the Terps ... Georgetown and Maryland have faced each other five times, three regular season matchups and twice in the playoffs. Maryland has won all five prior contests.

Cannon and Garnett, along with sophomore Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) were all selected to the preseason All-ECAC squad ... Garnett is one of 53 players on the Tewaaraton Watch List ... Head coach Dave Urick is ranked third among active Division I men's lacrosse coaches in win percentage ...
