Georgetown Plays Host to USF in Hoyas' Season Finale

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (10-16, 3-12 BE) plays their final game of the 2005-2006 season Tuesday night when the Hoyas host the University of South Florida (18-10, 8-7 BE). Tip-off at McDonough Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game can be seen on www.GUHoyas.com`s HoyaVision with Mike Vaillancourt calling the action.

The Series...

This is just the second meeting between the two schools. USF earned a victory over Georgetown, 90-62 in the USF Holiday Classic in December of the 1984-85 season.

Farewell Seniors...

Prior to today's game, the Georgetown University Athletic Department will recognize the three Hoya seniors, Christine Whitt (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln), Leslie Tyburski (Hammond, Ind./Gavit) and Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, Garden City), who will be playing in their final game at McDonough Arena. These three seniors have helped the women's basketball team to two BIG EAST Tournaments and a winning percentage of almost 75% against non-league foes.

They Can Light It Up...

The game between Georgetown and USF features two of the league's top scorers. USF's Jessica Dickson leads the nation and the BIG EAST with 22.4 points per game while Hoya sophomore Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) ranks fifth in the league with 16.6 points.

Quick Notes...

--- Sophomore point guard Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) ranks second in the BIG EAST and ranks 15th in the nation in assist to turnover ratio (+2.2) and ranks third in the BIG EAST with 4.7 assists per game. Heidloff has scored in double-figures in seven of the last eleven games. The Chicago, Ill. native notched her first career double-double with 13 points and career-high 11 assists in the win over American. Heidloff's 11 assists is the third best output by a BIG EAST player this season. The last time a Hoya dished out double-figure dimes was Nov. 11, 2004 when Mary Lisicky did it in a win over Delaware.

--- Heidloff has already led the team in assists on 16 occasions this year after accomplishing the feat ten times all of last season. Heidloff ranks third on the team averaging 9.9 points. In the last nine games, Heidloff has handed out 46 assists vs. only 16 turnovers.

--- Junior Kate Carlin (Ambler, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph's) ranks fourth on the team with 9.5 points per game. The 6-0 forward made 5-10 three pointers last week and has made 50 percent (16-32) of her treys in the last five games.

--- Georgetown has trailed at halftime in all 12 of their BIG EAST losses. In all three of their BIG EAST victories, the Hoyas have held a lead at intermission.

--- GU is 9-0 this season when leading at halftime.

--- The Hoyas have made 78% of their free throws in the last five minutes of games (102-132). As a team, Georgetown ranks fourth in the BIG EAST, shooting 70.9 percent from the stripe.

--- The Hoyas have made at least ten free throws in 13 of the last 17 games. In the last 17 games, Georgetown has knocked down 247-333 from the stripe (74%) while their opponents have attempted just 219.

--- Sophomore forward Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) has tallied 20 or more points in ten different games this season, including three of the last four. Marlow ranks sixth in the BIG EAST with ten 20-point games this season. She notched three straight 20+ point efforts from December 28-January 4, the longest such stretch of her career. Marlow, who was named to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team a year ago, ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with 16.6 points per game and while ranking ninth in the league, shooting 44.1 percent from the floor. Marlow has recorded four double-doubles in the last seven games and scored in double figures 41 times in her young career.

--- Senior Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), who is playing in her 105th career game, ranks second on the team, averaging 12.0 points and 3.4 assists. In her third season on the Hilltop after spending her freshman year at the University of Virginia, the Garden City, N.Y. native is now just the seventh player in Georgetown women's basketball history to surpass the 800-point, 200-assist and 400-rebound milestones. LeSueur set new career-highs with 24 points and ten free throws in the victory over Providence and LeSueur recorded her second double-double of the season (5th of her career) with 19 points and 11 rebounds vs Notre Dame.

-- Freshman post player Katrina Wheeler (Washington, D.C./T. Roosevelt) has recorded double-doubles in seven games. Wheeler was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on January 3 after averaging 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in victories over Florida Atlantic and Clemson. The 6-4 McDonald's All-American averages 8.5 points and ranks eighth in the BIG EAST with 8.4 rebounds, which leads all BIG EAST freshmen.
