Georgetown Travels to Syracuse on Wednesday

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (9-12, 2-8 BE) will be looking to win back-to-back games for the first time since December when it travels to Syracuse (9-12, 2-8 BE) on Wednesday, February 8. The BIG EAST tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.

The Hoyas snapped a season-long six game losing streak with a 64-52 win over visiting Seton Hall on Saturday (2/4).

The Series...

The Georgetown-Syracuse series is deadlocked at 22-22 with the first meeting taking place during the 1981-82 season. The Hoyas have won five of the last six games and eight of the last ten.

Last season, Georgetown swept the season series before the No. 11 Orange upset the No. 6 Hoyas in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round, 68-58.

Quick Notes...

---Sophomore point guard Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with 4.3 assists per game. Heidloff has scored in double-figures in four straight games and in five of the last six games. The Chicago, Ill. native notched her first career double-double with 13 points and career-high 11 assists in the win over American. Heidloff's 11 assists is the third best output by a BIG EAST player this season. The last time a Hoya dished out double-figure dimes was Nov. 11, 2004 when Mary Lisicky did it in a win over Delaware. Heidloff has already led the team in assists on eleven occasions this year after accomplishing the feat ten times all of last season. Heidloff is averaging 13.2 points and has made 46 percent of her three-pointers (15-32) in the last five games to go along with 19 assists vs. only eight turnovers.

---Freshman Nikki Bozeman (District Heights, Md./Bishop McNamara) has started in each of the last three games. The District Heights, Md. native is averaging 2.9 points and is shooting 41 percent from the floor in 19 minutes per game. Bozeman played her prep ball at Bishop McNamara High in District Heights, Md., which was receiving votes in the latest USA Today poll. Bozeman had her best collegiate game last time out vs. Seton Hall, setting career highs with nine points, six rebounds and matching a career-high with five assists.

--After scoring in double figures in two of the first six games, freshman Katrina Wheeler (Washington, D.C./T. Roosevelt) has scored in double figures in six of the last 12 games. Wheeler was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on January 3 after averaging 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in victories over Florida Atlantic and Clemson. The 6-4 McDonald's All-American averages 9.5 points and ranks seventh in the BIG EAST with 8.7 rebounds. Wheeler is tied for third in the BIG EAST with seven season double-doubles. In the win over Seton Hall, Wheeler notched the seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.

---Georgetown has trailed at halftime in all eight of their BIG EAST losses. In their two BIG EAST victories, the Hoyas have held a lead at intermission.

---GU is 8-0 when leading at halftime and the Hoyas have made 80% of their free throws in the last five minutes of games (86-108). As the team, Georgetown ranks third in the BIG EAST, shooting 71.9 percent from the stripe.

---The Hoyas have made at least ten free throws in 11 of the last 12 games and connected on 80 percent of their foul shots during the stretch. The Hoyas had made at least ten free throws in seven straight games before GU tallied 9-13 foul shots vs Notre Dame. In the last 12 games, Georgetown has knocked down 201-258 from the stripe (78%) while their opponents have attempted just 168.

---Sophomore forward Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) has tallied 20 or more points in five of the last 12 games (7 this season) and notched three straight 20+ point efforts from December 28-January 4, the longest such stretch of her career. Marlow, who was named to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team a year ago, ranks seventh in the BIG EAST with 16.2 points per game and while ranking 10th in the league, shooting 44.2 percent from the floor.

---Senior Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) ranks second on the team, averaging 12.2 points and 3.4 assists and third on the team with 3.4 assists. After transferring to the Hilltop after spending her freshman year at the University of Virginia, the Garden City, N.Y. native is now just the seventh player in Georgetown women's basketball history to surpass the 800-point, 200-assist and 400-rebound milestones. LeSueur set new career-highs with 24 points and ten free throws in the victory over Providence and LeSueur recorded her second double-double of the season (5th of her career) with 19 points and 11 rebounds vs Notre Dame.
