Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's tennis team clinched a 4-3 decision over the Villanova Wildcats to win its first BIG EAST match of the year. The Hoyas improve to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in league play.
The Hoyas clinched the doubles point with wins in the second and third flights and tallied a pair of wins in the singles at the second and fourth flights. The Wildcats evened the score at three with wins in the first, third and sixth singles, leaving the deciding match up to the fifth singles flight. Freshman Taylor Martin (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) clinched the deciding match in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Sophomore Liz Winokur (West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman) and freshman Natalie Newman (Wayzata, Minn./Blake) posted wins in both singles and doubles play.
The Hoyas return to the court Tuesday, March 21 when they host Amherst at 2 p.m. This will be the first match of the spring season for Amherst.
