Washington, D.C. - Freshman Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) holds a seven-stroke lead after 36 holes of the 2006 Fighting Camel Spring Classic, leading the Georgetown University women's golf team to a one-stroke team advantage after Monday's first day. The final round tees off on Tuesday at 8 a.m. on the Keith Hills Country Club No. 2 in Buies Creek, N.C.
After Monday's 36 holes, Georgetown stands at 45-over par 621 (310-311), one stroke better than host Campbell University, who bounced back from an opening round 316, to shoot a tournament low, 18-over par 306 in the day's final round. Gardner-Webb (629), UNC-Greensboro (631) and Mercer (644) round out the top-five schools.
Curtis fired back-to-back even par 72s to hold a seven-stroke lead on Ashley Mylton of UNC-Greensboro and Campbell's Alejandra Shaw, who both shot seven-over par 151. Senior Christy Larrimore (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) is tied for sixth overall with a nine-over par 153, after shooting first day rounds of 77 and 76. Meanwhile, classmate Nicole Hayashi (Westlake Village, Calif./Thousand Oaks) is in a three-way tie for 12th at 14-over par 158 (78-80). Rounding out the action for the Hoyas on Monday was sophomore Jenna Winokur (Springlake, N.J./Wall High School), who shot consecutive 11-over par 83s to tie her for 32nd and senior Erin Cockren (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), who is in a tied for 47th at 28-over par 172 (88-84).
