Washington, D.C. - Georgetown defenseman Jerry Lambe (North Massapequa, N.Y. / Farmingdale) has been named the ECAC's Defensive Player of the Week, released by the conference office on March 6. Lambe, a junior, is receiving the award for the first time.
Lambe earned the award for his efforts in Georgetown's conference opener against St. John's on Saturday. In the Hoyas' 9-5 victory, Lambe recorded four groundballs and held his opponent scoreless for the game. Lambe and the rest of the Hoya defense limited the Red Storm to only five goals on 25 shots.
This season, Lambe has lifted seven groundballs in two games, just shy of the nine he gathered in 15 contests last year. With Lambe's help, the Hoyas lead the conference in groundballs with 48 on the season.
Lambe is the first Hoya to receive this award since former Hoya All-American and current N.L.L. rookie standout Brodie Merrill took the honors on April 19 of last season.
The Hoyas will take their 1-1 record on the road this weekend to renew their non-conference rivalry with No. 5 ranked Syracuse Orangemen. The game will take place at the Carrier Dome on Friday at 7 p.m.
