Washington, D.C.- Georgetown University celebrated 2006 National Student-Athlete Day by releasing the Academic Honor Roll, a listing of current student-athletes who earned academic honors ranging from Dean's List to First Honors during the fall 2005 semester.

National Student-Athlete Day recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes nationwide who excel in the classroom, on the playing field and in their communities. Created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society, the NCAA became a partner in 1994.

"As professor of English and American Literature for 35 years, and as Faculty Athletics Representative for over 20 years, I have watched our student-athletes with care and pride," says Dr. Wayne Knoll. "We have long followed a process that enables us to flag and assist those who need help. Now, we also recognize those student-athletes who bring honor to themselves and to our university with their academic achievements."

In addition to the Honor Roll, earlier this year, swimmer Cara Manlandro (Wildwood, N.J./Bolles School) was named a 2006 recipient of the prestigious Churchill Award, while track and field student-athletes Fleet Hower (Marion, Va./Marion) and Meghan O'Neil (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford) were named 2005-06 BIG EAST/Aeropostale Scholar-Athlete award winners.
