Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's tennis team defeated American University on Wednesday, April 5 at the American Outdoor Tennis Courts. This win gives the Hoyas back-to-back victories over local rivals as they defeated Howard on Tuesday, April 4. The Hoyas improve to 4-7 on the season.
Freshman Courtney Olsen (Englewood, Colo./Colorado Academy) won her third singles match with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory at the third singles position. Olsen also won her doubles match with senior Charlotte Guy (Pasadena, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) at the second doubles postion.
The duo of sophomores Liz Winokur (West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman) and Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt) remain undefeated as they took an 8-5 decision at the first doubles flight.
Junior Eileen Boyle (Burr Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) clinched the match for the Hoyas as GU had already garnered the doubles point and junior Nora Gardner (Greenwich, Conn./Deerfield Academy) and won their matches at three and six singles, respectively.
The Hoyas return to the court Saturday, April 8 when they travel to Rutgers for a 1 p.m. match.
