Sept. 1, 2006
August was a long month full of training sessions, fitness tests, and team events for the women's soccer team.
It was a physically grueling month filled with double sessions in hot summer weather, so the team was very happy to have gotten through the first obstacle of the season. The pre-preseason trip to the Jersey Shore was a success as it gave everyone a chance to exchange summer stories, meet the new freshmen, and get out any nervousness that we had going into preseason. Numerous team dinners and events throughout training kept the team close and in the right state of mind for heading into the season.
Last weekend, we began our 2006 season at the Navy Tournament in Annapolis. Our season opener was on Friday against Binghamton University in which the game ended in a 2-2 tie after two sudden death overtime periods. Although the team was disappointed by the result, we were happy with the effort and opportunities that we created as we outshot Binghamton, 16-5.
Our next game took place on Sunday against Davidson University and ended once again with a tie. We led 1-0 at halftime but allowed Davidson to score the equalizer halfway through the second half. We scored two additional goals throughout the game, however both were called back due to offsides calls. The team played through another scoreless overtime period, ending the game with a 1-1 tie.
Although the team was disappointed with the result, we are anxious and excited to play in our first home game of the season this weekend in the DC Invitational with the hopes of getting our first win.
