Ingrid Wells Named to SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week

Oct. 31, 2007

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown women's soccer freshman midfielder Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was selected to the latest Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week it was announced today. This accolade comes two days after Wells earned her second-consecutive BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. Wells' four assists this past weekend helped her garner both awards.

Wells is currently ranked sixth nationally in assists per game, averaging 0.68 per contest. This year, Wells has dished out 13 assists, which ties her with Nicole DePalma for the GU single-season record. DePalma set the record in 2002, the same year he also set the single-game record with five assists against Howard. Last Friday, Wells had four assists in a 5-0 win over Cincinnati. The freshman has 23 points during 2007, tying her for second on the single-season record charts, three behind Jessie Beers-Altman's 26-point season in 2002.

The win over Cincinnati clinched a first-round bye for the Hoyas in the BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship, a 10-team single-elimination tournament. The top five teams in each division, seeded by conference point total, qualify for the conference championship. The top three teams in each division earn a first-round bye to the quarterfinals. The first round and quarterfinal games are conducted on the campus of the higher-seeded teams.

Play will begin on November 1 with a pair of first-round matches. The winners of those two games will advance to the quarterfinal games on Sunday, November 4.
