Recap | Box Score | Game Action

Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III
On the team's defensive intensity early in the game...
"I didn't feel like that. The turnovers has to be cut out, it has to be cut out. We have an unselfish group, and we have a lot of different people that can score in a lot of different ways. Our offense is not fluid, our offense is not smooth, by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, 20 assists on however many field goals, is pretty good. But we've got a long way to go to get to where we're going to be."

On the defensive effort...
"He's a terrific player (Lee). We are (ahead of where they were last year defensively) and that's been a conscious effort and that's one of the reasons are offense is not where it needs to be. I'm going to put the whammy on us and we're going to have an awful defensive game the next game, but we spent a lot more time working on defense. I think we can flexible defensively and a lot of things are coming. But our defense is ahead of where our offense was at this point last year. We're just laying the foundation as far as that goes also. We put more time in practice on that and I guess it shows on both ends."

On what he takes out of tonight's game...
"I just think our overall effort and our cohesiveness at the defensive end was pretty good. I don't want to make it seem like our offense was horrible, but it's not where these guys know we're going to be. That's a terrific team. This is a very, very good win for us, to come down here and win and beat this team in this building. It's a terrific win."

On the team giving up offensive rebounds...
"I don't know, but it will be taken care of. Right, fellas?"

On the team's offense...
"Maybe I expressed it wrong. I'm not frustrated with our offense, but I know that we're far from being crisp and every day, I say, `Let's improve and let's get better.' I know we're going to be a lot better in a couple of weeks, a couple of months, than we are right now. It's not like I'm sitting here saying, `Whoa is me' with regard to our offense. In many ways, we are farther along possibly than we were last year, but I don't think about last year. I think about where this group is going to be and where this group needs to go. I just realize we're going to get a lot better."

On playing Jeremiah Rivers and Chris Wright...
"They were out there together for stretches. If you look at it so far with Jeremiah, Jessie (Sapp), Jon (Wallace) and Chris (Wright), we have four people that can put pressure on the opposition at both ends of the floor. It just happened that Jeremiah and Chris were out there a lot together. In another game, another night, it could be another combination."

On not losing anything when the younger guys played...
"I think that was huge, especially relative to who the opposition was. That's a veteran team with guards who have controlled most of the games they've been in. That's good. That's something we are working toward and we will get to the point where I don't think about this group relative to who is a starter and who is not. There is going to be very little drop off up and down the board when we bring guys off the bench."

On remembering last year's game...
"I think our guys knew and remembered that game. To that end, maybe, maybe not. But it's about us and it's about us getting to the point where we need to be."

On Austin Freeman not appearing flustered...
"That is accurate, that is very accurate. He's feeling his way through also. Austin and Chris are in the same boat, they're freshmen with limited reps and that are progressing and will continue to progess."

Senior Center Roy Hibbert

On teams getting excited to play Georgetown...
"Obviously, I can be a force, but I'm just trying to make sure my team wins. I'm not worried about what the other team thinks of me."

On Gerald Lee...
"He's pretty good. He knows how to work in the low post and I wish him luck the rest of the season."

Senior Forward Patrick Ewing, Jr.

On playing Gerald Lee...
"I was just trying to be more physical with him and try to force him to get his touches off the block instead of near the basket. Like Coach said, he's a great player, but I think we did a good job with him."

On remembering last year's game...
"You don't like to lose to a team, especially on your home court. The tradition of playing in McDonough, they took something that was dear to our program and to come back here and get pay back, it felt good to get the win. But that was last year and we want to continue our success."
