You've Got Mail!

November 8, 2007

With the Hoyas' hoop home opener versus William & Mary upon us, season ticketholders last week and this week have been on the lookout for their tickets, arriving just in time for Saturday's contest.

Additionally, students have been flocking to McDonough all week to pick up their tickets and the 2008 version of the popular "We Are Georgetown" gray tee.

Season ticket sales took a sizable jump this year. Coming off an exhilarating run to the Final Four last season, that is no surprise. But more importantly, it is another step forward in targeted planned growth under athletic director Bernard Muir.

I'll use approximate numbers here. In 2005, coach Thompson III's first year on the bench, total season tickets sold numbered 2,300 (including 800 student tickets). In 2006, after expanding the marketing team, the numbers escalated to 4,400 tickets (1,200 students).

Last year, upon further strengthening the sales efforts, 7,600 season packages (2,250 students) went out. Today, the final 2008 numbers are just about in with 9,600 tickets sold (3,000 students). Not too shabby!

This remarkable multi-year increase affects everything: 1) it provides sorely needed operating revenues; 2) it gives our team something that approaches what a home court advantage is at most schools; and 3) it dramatically expands the community of spirited Hoya fans and supporters.

In addition to coach Thompson and his team, due credit for this success should go to Hoya Blue, as well as the marketing and sales team, which has included McDonough staff members Kyle Ragsdale, Kim Frank, Steve Alleva, Andy Rowdon, Jordan Jarry, and Allison Rubin.
