Georgetown 61, Fairfield 49

Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III

On the play of the sophomores, Rivers, Macklin and Summers...
I think Jeremiah was terrific today, with five assists and no turnovers. The pressure he can put on people defensively, it can have a tremendous effect. Vernon got some rebounds that he had not been getting, but he went up into the crowd and got a couple of key rebounds in the first half.

On the defensive mindset of the team in the second half...
I believe our intensity picked up. Coach Cooley has [Fairfield] executing very well in their offensive sets. They did a terrific job running through their checklist and taking advantage of when we overcompensated. In the second half, it wasn't necessarily a tactical change; we just picked up our intensity. Chris [Wright] and Jeremiah both did a terrific job defensively throughout the game. They went after some long rebounds and made some great defensive plays.

On the play of Summers...
DaJuan made some good plays. We need him to continue running down rebounds and making some defensive plays. The scoring will come later, but we need him to continue making those hustle plays out on the court, the "dirty" work.

Fairfield Head Coach Ed Cooley

On how Fairfield played today...
For 38 minutes, that was the best we've played all year. We shared the basketball, we limited our turnovers, we tried to limit possessions by Georgetown...we wanted to shorten the game up a little bit. We knew we had to shoot a high percentage in order to steal a win on the road against, in what I think, is the best team in the country.

On Georgetown...
When you have perimeter guys that can make shots with the experience of (Jonathan) Wallace, who I think is probably the best guard in the country, clearly the most underrated guard. And with a presence like Roy (Hibbert) that's a deadly one, two combination.

On Georgetown sophomore forward DaJuan Summers...
Summers really hurt us. He made timely shots. One of the most critical basket was coming out of a timeout, I looked at our bench and said "that's a game breaker right there."

On the outcome of the game...
(Georgetown) found a way to beat us, and I am very encouraged with our effort.

Georgetown Player Quotes - Jeremiah Rivers, DaJuan Summers, Vernon Macklin

Sophomore forward DaJuan Summers
On second half defensive intensity...
It was a point of emphasis, obviously, because they had seven threes in the first half, and we didn't want them to beat us with three-point shots...and that's what it seemed like it was getting down to. So we started pushing harder, and wanted them to beat us on the inside, basically.

Sophomore guard Jeremiah Rivers
On frustrating Fairfield's junior guard Jonathan Han...
You could tell after a while it looked like he wanted to get the ball out of his hands a little, I felt. But, he's a great point guard, so I didn't see too much frustration in him. He was obviously trying to get the ball to the other guards...I was just trying to do my best staying in front of him, cause some havoc for him. I was trying to just cause some problems for their offense, not necessarily just him.

On getting an opportunity with Sapp going down...
It was a great opportunity. I'm not sure what happened to Sapp, but it looked like he was in pain, but coach called my number and I got in there, and I was really just trying to set the tempo for myself defensively with [Jonathan] Han, and from there just do my best to get Roy and DaJuan going, as well as Jon running the offense.

Sophomore forward Vernon Macklin
On the sophomore class stepping up...
It feels great. By learning from the juniors and the seniors, you know, we learned from all of them, so now it's time for us to help out the team and it's our turn to step up and play too.
