Rivalry Week?
Two of the great programs from the 1980s meet each other for a showdown during "Rivalry Week" on ESPN. While I will never complain about the Hoyas playing on the Worldwide Leader, it is curious to play a "rival" whom we have not seen since 2001. That said, I (like most Hoya fans) would happily take the win, and televised, if we get it.
There is some degree of recent history: in the 1999-2000 season Georgetown beat the Cards at MCI Center behind 8 last-minute points from Anthony Perry, including the game-winning shot. Students rushed the court. Joy ensued.
In the 2000-2001 season, GU romped over Louisville at Freedom Hall in one of Denny Crum's last seasons as coach. Freshman Mike Sweetney was dominant for an ESPN audience that game, and it announced to the college hoops world that Georgetown was crashing the party.
Will this game at Rick Pitino's free-shooting Cardinals have the same effect?
7 PM, ESPN.
