Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's tennis team lost a 7-0 match to Hampton today at the McDonough Tennis Complex. The Pirates slipped by to win the doubles point and went on to take a 6-0 sweep in the singles play.
The Hoyas fell behind when the Lady Pirates took two of three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point and a 1-0 edge heading into singles play. The lone doubles victory was credited to junior Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt) and sophomore partner Courtney Olsen (Englewood, Colo./Colorado Academy). They won an 8-1 decision at the second doubles position and remain undefeated.
In singles play, juniors Liz Winokur (West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman) and Cohen forced their matches to third sets. However, both would lose close decisions - Cohen in a 7-5 third set and Winokur in a third-set super tiebreaker.
The Hoyas return to action tomorrow when they head to Norfolk, Va. for a 1 p.m. makeup match against Old Dominion. The Hoyas then head home for a Saturday BIG EAST Conference matchup when they host Rutgers at McDonough Tennis Complex. The match is slated for 11 a.m.
