Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's tennis team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 7-0, today at McDonough Tennis Complex. The Hoyas (3-11) took a clean sweep of the competition winning all six singles and all three doubles matches. Junior Stephanie Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./DeWitt) improves to 12 overall wins this spring.
The Blue and Gray won all three doubles matches and the tandem of sophomore Courtney Olsen (Englewood, Colo./Colorado Academy) and Cohen remained undefeated in doubles play. The Hoyas let up just three games in doubles action.
In singles, Cohen started the day with a straight-set victory to give the Hoyas a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Kelsey Darnell (Annapolis, Md./Severn) easily toppled her opponent, dropping just two games en route to the victory. Freshman Shelley Murveit (Portola Valley, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) clinched the match for Georgetown with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the sixth singles spot.
Georgetown won the three remaining singles matches for the victory.
The Hoyas return to action this Saturday, March 31 for the first of four road matches. They travel to Storrs, Conn. for a match against BIG EAST Conference opponent UConn at noon. The Hoyas are 0-3 in BIG EAST action this year.
